Factors, Multiples & the Distributive Property

Find the GCF and LCM of whole numbers and use the distributive property to rewrite sums.

The Standard

6.NS.4: Find the greatest common factor of two whole numbers less than or equal to 100 and the least common multiple of two whole numbers less than or equal to 12. Use the distributive property to express a sum of two whole numbers 1–100 with a common factor as a multiple of a sum of two whole numbers with no common factor greater than 1.

In plain words

In this lesson, you will learn how to identify factors and multiples, find the greatest common factor and least common multiple, and use factors to rewrite numerical expressions.

Learning Targets — you will be able to:

  1. 1Identify factors of whole numbers.
  2. 2Identify factor pairs.
  3. 3Generate multiples of whole numbers.
  4. 4Identify common factors.
  5. 5Find the greatest common factor of two numbers.
  6. 6Identify common multiples.
  7. 7Find the least common multiple of two numbers.
  8. 8Use the distributive property to rewrite numerical expressions.
  9. 9Explain mathematical reasoning using models and equations.
